At CES 2026, Aumovio presented their innovative Surface Projection solution, with the pitch that if displays are fighting for space, make the space the display. The system uses 3 compact, high-resolution projectors integrated in the headliner or overhead control area to cast visuals across the cockpit surface, up to a full-width, pillar-to-pillar effect. The clever bit is not just projection; it’s the software stitching that blends multiple projected areas into one continuous visual impression.

From a cockpit design standpoint, Instead of adding more rigid hardware, projection can create a soft, immersive layer that appears when needed and disappears when not. Aumovio notes the approach works without special cockpit materials, although darker surfaces (especially paired with tactile microfiber/velour) yield the best results. So, CMF teams still have to work on it.
There’s also an efficiency narrative: the system activates at dusk and relies on LED projection with minimal power consumption. That matters in EV-era interiors where every watt is interrogated, and where OEMs want premium ambiance without range guilt. Aumovio says up to three miniature projectors can be combined into one unit.
