Tesla have just announced new entry-level versions of their Model 3 and Model Y, with a price nominally $5,000 lower than the previous lowest-spec models, and the de-contenting includes the lighting system. There’s no interior RGB lighting, and the exterior lights are simpler. There’s just one front lamp on each side, the classical front combination lamp design, rather than upper and lower lamp units. Likewise, there’s only one rear lamp on each side, fixed in place on the quarter panel. There’s no light on the tailgate, and none behind the tailgate when it is open.
Estimated component cost savings is more than $200 per car.
