Seven speakers from carmakers will present their achievements and their wish lists to improve safety and style. In a period where budget and buzz are dedicated to EVs and AVs, it will be interesting to learn how lighting could help with fatality reduction and and propose solutions to designers to differentiate their cars’ appearance.
S-VW’s Henning Kiel will start out by talking about new night appearance of SAIC Volkswagen, with thepersonalized welcome communication, the logo light, the light lines, the 3D light guide technology, and their their challenges. Then he will shift to new interior light element “ID.Light” with various additional light which provides information for comfort and safety functions, and which can support existing functions by giving light signals in a suitable position.
Audi’s Jonas Kobbert will present the conclusions of two studies, one evaluating distraction and impairment by animation and sequential activation of lights on a parked car, and the second one describing the benefit in reaction time and perception of dynamic turn signals.
Stellantis’ Whilk Gonçalves will talk about his company’s global strategy for communication using HD headlamps, considering the different functions like guiding lines, symbol projection, and projection of light around the car to extend other functions. He will present the benefits and the drawback considering competitive other functions like HUD.
FAW VW’s Lili Yang will describe the evolution and uptake of LED and ADB in recent years. She will present a comparison between 11- and 32-segment matrix lights, and a survey on the light projection feedback of drivers. She also will give an overview of DLP and microLED.
BMW’s Rene Übler will discuss the concept of dynamic laser matrix beam. The front lights use a 12-segment matrix beam with a dynamic laser booster which swivels to make ADB or AFS.
Volvo’s Paul-Henri Matha will talk on the strategy of Volvo concerning full electrification by 2030 and its impact for exterior lighting.
GM’s Michael Larsen will talk about the long, steep road to legalise ADB in the US.
