The European debate around stronger local-content requirements for access to certain support measures may seem remote from cockpit matters. But if the non-battery EU content threshold does move toward 70 per cent of parts cost, the implications will extend well beyond powertrain. Interior plastics, decorative trims, cockpit subassemblies, ambient-lighting modules, display-related components, and peripheral electronics could all be affected by localization, sourcing, and standardization decisions.
That makes local-content questions centrally relevant for the vehicle interior world, because what if changes to market regulations impose hard constraints into the design of certain interiors – not because of ergonomics or desirability, but because of industrial compliance and economic eligibility.
