Mercedes unveiled the interior of their new electric C-Class a few days before the car’s world premiere on 20 April. Highlights include a giant panoramic glass roof, and a dashboard designed as a continuous visual and emotional environment rather than a collection of isolated devices.
The car has an immersive, highly integrated cockpit, with a panoramic display and a matrix backlight with around 10 million pixels. The ‘Sky Control’ roof has 162 illuminated Mercedes stars, and the ambient lighting system offers ten styles. A ‘sound visualization’ feature synchronizes the interior ambient lighting to whatever music is playing.
The highly sculpted seats offer electric adjustment, memory, 4-way lumbar support, massage, ventilation, integration with a ‘4D’ sound system, and – at least on some trim packages – racy red stitching (we also note the racy red seatbelts).
A ‘certified vegan’ package is available, including animal-free seat upholstery, headliner, pillars, door panels, and carpeting.
To cut NVH, there’s a stiffer body, aerodynamic optimization, more insulation, specially-tuned elastomeric mounts, and laminated front side glass. The steering wheel is round!
