During DVN’s lighting design contest, Umea design school student Love Bjorklund presented his project done together with David Dahlberg.
Usually, when we talk about sustainability, we try to hide the reuse of the material, especially when we talk about vehicle lighting. All optical lenses must not be designed with reused materials. This project is exactly the opposite.

The idea is to collect used amber turn signal lenses (made of polycarbonate or PMMA) and use them to create new design. Because this used plastic is not pure, it will generate special faults that make it unique. This will create unique lamp, unique design, the exact opposite of what we have today.
The project name Turazzo refers to terrazzo material used for architecture.

Thanks to RGB LEDs, the colours can be adapted for the likes of temperature indication (cold/warm) as already seen for car interiors:

Love’s project was focused on interior lighting but may be used in different application. This idea could extend the usage of reused plastic material to reach the future EU rule about end-of-life vehicles (2030 ELP EU).
