For the second time in a row, the best lecture award for the DVN Detroit event went to Colby Childress, Marelli’s US Optical Manager, for his speech about infrared support for future AEB systems. It garnered fully 24 per cent of votes!

Congratulations, Colby. We will give the award during our DVN 2026 Ceremony at DVN Munich on 4 February, and we look forward to meeting the Marelli team then and there.
A few excerpts from Childress’ speech:
“Imagine a world where lighting plays a crucial role in vehicle braking and safety through illumination. Marelli’s advanced k-Light module family upgraded with infrared diodes (IRED) enhances sensor visibility without causing glare, enabling precise detection and response, and ensuring safer journeys for everyone on the road, even in conditions that challenge the human eye.
“This effective illumination is fundamental to enabling also the integration of our US-fit Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) lighting system with vehicle sensors, allowing active detection for Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) systems. This integration allows the vehicle to brake faster and more precisely than any driver. This significantly improves road safety. In the United States, all new vehicles will be required to have AEB by 2029 – our solutions enable vehicle makers to meet and exceed these future standards”.
