On 8 September 8th, 2025, at the IAA fair the Polestar 5 was officially launched at a spectacular event. DVN Senior Advisor Andreas Friedrich was there.
The 5 is a performance grand tourer (GT). It’s on a bespoke Polestar bonded aluminum platform, called PPA (Polestar Performance Architecture), with 800-volt electrical architecture with 650-kW motors developed in house and 1,015 Nm total output. Range is 670 km (WLTP – with the 550 kW drivetrain).
It boasts extensive sustainable materials, and Android Automotive OS with Google built-in. Standard equipment levels are high, and there’s a luxury 4+1 seating arrangement.
The launch was hosted at the HOCH 5 Building in downtown Munich with a large rooftop area and above that a rooftop bar.
Polestar collaborated with German famous actor, director and producer (winemaker too) Matthias Schweighöfer with a short film around the future of mobility called “Wake up call from the future” that you can enjoy here, and Matthias was also present at the event and mingled around afterwards together with other cool people from the young Munich high society.
The Polestar brand team had curated an experience going from the ground level in elevator (todays world with engine sounds and smell of oil and tires) to the future at the event floor at the top with a more pleasant and quiet soundscape and a much better smell with a specially made scent for the new car.

For the reveal there was a speech by Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller; he invited up Matthias Schweighöfer at the end just before the cover was pulled.
Once the cover was off the crowd gathered around the vehicle – and inside, at the absolute beauty of the interior. The concept for the PS5 was the Polestar Precept and that concept car had a lot of B comp natural fiber composites
Glad to find, when talking to Maria Uggla head of CMF Design at Polestar, that the PS5 also had B Comp in the seats and is also using NFPP materials in some visual parts of the door pockets and trunk area.

Polestar Head of Interior Design Juan Pablo Bernal said the front seats are made in collaboration with Recaro and has the lowest H point that encountered so far, because the seat is more or less right on the batteries, and all the electronic boxes normally under the seat are in the seatback. Still, there is good space for the feet since there is a local dip in the floor just behind the seat leaving good seating comfort even for a tall person (such as this author at 192 cm). Juan Pablo also said the rear seats fold, upon request from former CEO Thomas Ingenlath so that he could bring his bike with him. Folding is done electrically and was a really nice experience.

Sid Odedra, Polestar’s new Head of UI/UX, mentioned that the new UI is more “Polestar first” so the middle icon at the top is now the “Drivers App”.

The party then continued on the roof terrace where they had hoisted 3 cars to the 5th floor with a huge crane the days before the event. A PS5, PS4 and PS3. Swedish singer Sarah Klang performed a few of her songs – she has appeared in a few Polestar ads before.
