VW has released pictures of what they’re calling a ‘near-production concept’ of the new ID.Polo’s interior.
The exterior of the car was blocked out, but the interior has been revealed in great detail – and some physical cars exist, so there are several early reviews circulating on the net.
VW has taken a lot of customer feedback and used that to envision this new interior language.
It’s centered on intuitive interaction and – glory be! – physical buttons. There are two freestanding screens maximized for vision angles. The instrument panel screen is 10.25″, and the Infotainment screen close to 13″.
There are plenty of textile materials present in the dashboard and doorpanels, which gives a warm comfort feeling. The steering wheel, with a rounded-hexagon shape, has numerous actual, real, clicky, functional buttons.

The screens come with a wink to the ’80s: with a button-push you flip to retro mode: cassette deck imagery for music, and analog-look gauges on the instrument panel. VW designers want us to get an emotional connection to their products, something they refer to as the VW ‘secret sauce’.
When I was a kid, my grandmother in Köln always had her secret sauce – Maggi Würze! VW’s ‘secret sauce’ is something completely different, yet very appealing.

There’s another row of physical buttons below the infotainment screen, and yet more buttons on the driver’s door. Audio is controlled via a rotary knob on the centerstack.
All in all, a very nice interior. We hope most of this will make it into production!
