The 2010 eSafety awards, which reward excellence in deployment of electronic safety systems, have been chosen by the organisation’s forum members.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Wolfgang Reinhardt of ACEA, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, for his tireless contribution to the success of the eSafety Forum and the eSafety initiative and, in particular, to the eCall implementation.
The Industry/Technology Award has been won by Tom Tom for their success as the world’s leading provider of location and navigation systems with more than 40 million people using their services every day. The company’s efforts toward a safe driving environment, such as the inclusion of speed warnings in their devices, were important criteria. Also influential was their leadership of the Nomadic Device Forum, which aims to improve on voluntary basis the safe in-vehicle use of devices in general and of PNDs in particular.
The Policy Award was won by the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications for all its activities taken in the past year toward the deployment of ITS and eSafety systems and services described in the national ITS strategy and Action Plan. It was also commended for being the first country to sign the eCall memorandum of understanding, remaining at the forefront of eCall deployment, as well as having co-chaired the European eCall Implementation Platform.
