The Toyota bZ7 is notable in that a super-major global OEM is now allowing the Chinese cockpit paradigm to shape the product itself. With HarmonyOS Cockpit 5.0, Xiaomi ecosystem integration, a 15.6-inch 2K center display, and a HUD on select versions, Toyota is no longer just adapting a global product to China. They are acknowledging that the Chinese market comes with its own cockpit logic and user expectations.
Rather than deploying one common HMI architecture and localizing it around the edges, the bZ7’s value chain is being built from Chinese usage patterns first – digital continuity, embedded assistants, contextual services, and passenger-centred comfort – and only then integrated into the vehicle. In that sense, the cockpit is no longer an application layer. It has become the core of perceived product value.
