TYC, long known as one of the more dependable makers of aftermarket vehicle lamps less expensive to buy than OE parts, and now, they are putting strong focus on OE programs. TYC recently restructured their business in China, bringing their Chongqing and Changzhou facilities under full ownership.
Now, the company’s new Mobility Center at Wixom, Michigan – backed with a grant by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation – brings capacity for TYC to directly supply the North American passenger vehicle lighting market. TYC-Wixom can produce over a million lamps annually, with high levels of automation.

On 17 September, TYC hosted an open house at the Wixom plant, welcoming customers, suppliers, Michigan officials, and stakeholders. The facility contains provisions for additive manufacturing technologies, using FDM, SLS, and DLP not only for prototyping but also for production fixtures, jigs, and even some low-volume parts. These capabilities reduce costs and accelerate development cycles, and strengthen design-for-manufacturing principles critical to compete in the US market.

TYC proudly showcased their innovative styling concepts such as a laser-etched PVD that creates a starry-sky effect, as well as slim LED modules including ADB systems. However, the Wixom site will remain focused on small lamps like side markers and CHMSLs.

The facility is equipped for fully automated moulding and assembly lines that integrate inspection systems to check for shot weight, and monitor production with laser markings so each part carries a complete digital manufacturing record.

With investment in additive manufacturing, advance traceability and small lamp specialization, TYC is building a scalable foundation that responds directly to the shifting OEM needs under USMCA, tariffs and local sourcing mandates.
XVP Thomas Lipscomb said, “With the right technology and the right capabilities, we are in the right place at the right time with the right product. This facility is more than a building, it represents our commitment to innovation, local economic growth, and the future of mobility right here in Michigan.”

The DVN team was happy to be part of the inauguration event and get the chance to meet all the team last week just before the DVN event.
