Building on our previous coverage of this topic from March 2025: During the 92nd GRE Session this past April, the activity report of the TF (GRE-92-23) and the proposals for amendments to the R48 09 were presented to GRE. The purpose of the proposal was to introduce automated driving systems (ADS) (GRE-92-12). GRE expected a final working document to be presented to the next session (October 2025). The target is to present the document to WP29 during the June 2026 Session.
The GRE Chair asked TF AVSR to also draft a standalone UN Regulation on ADS Marking Lamp, covering performance and installation.
In May and July 2025, the Task Force met twice. They reviewed the proposal GRE-92-12 (R48 09 series including automated driving systems) considering the comments from GRE experts during the last session.
The document about the fitness of UN-R48 (Series 09 and 08) was polished and sent to GRE, as a formal proposal to the 93rd session in October. ( GRE25/23 and GRE25/24)
The upcoming TF AVSR meeting is scheduled for 29 September. It can be used to prepare an informal document to GRE-93 dealing with any change in the formal document if needed.
And the task force will start working on a hybrid regulation for such an ADS marker lamp upon request of GRE. It should be based on the document submitted to GRE during the 91st GRE Session.
The latest draft technical specifications for ADS marker lamps were submitted by TF-AVSR during the 91st GRE Session. (informal GRE91-12).
