The Volvo Group have signed an agreement with Nvidia to jointly develop the decision making system for autonomous vehicles and commercial machines. The solution will leverage Nvidia’s complete software stack for sensor processing, perception, map location and route planning, enabling a wide range of possible autonomous driving applications, such as freight transport, waste collection and recycling, public transport, construction, mining, forestry and more.
The partnership with Nvidia will focus on the development of a flexible and scalable autonomous driving system, which should be used first in professional pilots and then in Volvo Group commercial offers. The agreement signed between Volvo Group and Nvidia is a long-term multi-year partnership. Work will begin immediately, with staff from both companies in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Santa Clara, California.

The strategic partnership covers fundamental end-to-end computing for autonomous vehicles. It includes accelerated computer technology in the data center for deep neural network training, large-scale simulation for Hardware-in-the-Loop testing and validation of autonomous vehicle systems, and deployment of the platform. Nvidia’s DRIVE platform in the vehicle running the complete software stack for 360-degree sensor processing, mapping and route planning.
