Nio have won a 2019 Red Dot Award for Product Design for their innovative battery swapping station, the Nio Power Swap. This is the second Red Dot accolade in a row for Nio, who won the “Best of the Best” award category in 2018 for a home charging station, the Nio Power Home. The Red Dot is awarded to products that feature an outstanding design.
NIO are focused on developing cutting-edge technology and mobility concepts as well as making their brand and design integral parts of what they call a joyful lifestyle.
The Power Swap comprises over 500 patented technologies. Nio say they have developed the world’s smallest battery exchange station, which requires only three parking spaces. The fully-automatic battery swap enables efficient power charging in minutes.
At this year’s Auto Shanghai, Nio set up their “Nio House|Auto Shanghai” display, and also showed their high-performance EVs the ES8 and ES6 SUV, their “world’s fastest EV” EP9, and their Eve Vision car and Formula E Team car, the 004. Moreover, their first-ever sedan called the ET was first shown at Shanghai.
The Red Dot Award: Product Design is one of the world’s largest design competitions. In 2019, designers and manufacturers from 55 countries entered more than 5,500 products in the competition.
