The VW Group’s Seat unit say their new 5th-generation Ibiza, set to debut at the Geneva auto show in March and go on sale in June, is a major step forward for the brand in safety, design, performance, and comfort because of its new platform.
The Ibiza’s safety technology will include adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assist, which can accelerate and decelerate the car in congested traffic. The technology is unusual in the subcompact segment but is already in the brand’s Leon and Ateca compact SUV.
Last year, Seat sold 152,000 Ibizas in its global markets, ranking it just behind the Leon with sales of 165,700. Europe was the main market for the Ibiza with 2016 sales of 120,523, compared with the Leon’s 143,192, according to data from UK-based market researchers JATO Dynamics.
