Audi’s Sport Quattro concept, shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month, has a LARP (Laser-Activated Remote Phosphor) auxiliary high
beam headlamp to throw light up to 500 metres down the road, well beyond the reach of even the car’s powerful LED matrix high beams. While it remains to be seen how soon such lamps might reach North American roads—American regulations cap aggregate high beam axial intensity at 75,000 candela/120 Lux per side—it is exciting to see this kind of forward lighting system developing into a more and more plausible item.
