Jean-Paul Charret, at the left, leading the Round table on simulations |
At the DVN Tokyo workshop held 2 weeks ago, Jean-Paul Charret, chairman of Round Table 1 about Simulations, gathered around him representatives of Mentor Graphics, Optis and Brandenburg which first made a presentation of their companies before answering questions of the chairman and the attendees, car makers and lighting suppliers Tier 1, around the tables
A long discussion was held around the accuracy we can get from current simulations.
The accuracy depends on ability to simulate environment, mainly material and is dependent on:
– ability to simulate tolerances
– ability to understand design and manufacturing tolerances
– people entering right parameters
A concern was the difficulty today to get accurate models from source suppliers
Several attendees emphasized the Importance to be able to communicate easily across the different software platforms (CATIA, Optics, Thermal simulation, mechanical simulation, manufacturing dispersion)
Some car makers consider they are today relying on set makers, and they need to have services provided by simulation companies.
Standardisation is needed—for example, a standard for ray files.
