To build the DVN report on LED Thermo-Electronics, we sent questions to high-level experts about the future of the different light sources offered today on the market. Here are some thoughts on the matter by Opel’s Ingolf Schneider.
Asked about Opel’s expectations for LED market share in the next 5 years, Schneider says “We expect a growing number of cars with different versions of LED options. The specific market share is currently under investigation”.
He thinks Xenon lights probably don’t have much of a future: “With the current available potential of the LED technology this outlook could be possible at least in Europe.”
About the future of halogen technology, he is more optimistic for this techology: ”Yes, even in the next 10 years, it will still exist but in lower volumes than today”. But there are a lot of possible designs offered which give a huge differentiation against todays modules and this will grow.
About the next step after LED, he said: “Currently we are working on a new level of AFL for all our segments. For the time after this there are a lot of possible ideas in the pipeline. This range is running over OLEDs, laser which are just in discussion, but maybe we will offer something more scientific.”
