Mobileye and Pana-Pacific have reached agreement for the latter company to distribute Mobileye’s collision avoidance and mitigation system to the commercial vehicle (CV) market in the USA and Canada. Under the agreement, Pana-Pacific’s engineers will expedite pre-wired and factory-installed options of the Mobileye products with all the CV original equipment (OE) manufacturers, with its aftermarket sales team marketing Mobileye to all heavy-duty truck dealerships and internal customer service staff providing technical support. The company’s ADAS equipment has already been integrated into the vehicles of several manufacturers, including BMW, General Motors and Volvo.
Mobileye’s vision-based platform is driven by a proprietary chipset and algorithms. The system works as a ‘third eye’, analyzing the risk of forward collision, lane departure, headway following time, excessive speed and pedestrian hazards in real-time and issuing visual and audio alerts to improve safety by helping drivers avoid accidents. The system is capable of ‘reading’ various types of signs, intelligently controlling headlamp high-beams, and wirelessly connecting to smartphones to offer a number of additional functions. Mobileye CEO Isaac Litman says, “This is a very important opportunity to improve safety on our highways. We have invested heavily to make our roads and vehicles safer, and this relationship will go a long way to improving the skills of drivers. Our best-in-class C2-270 will now have accelerated access to the commercial vehicle market; at the production level and in the aftermarket. We’re simply delighted to have the opportunity to work with Pana-Pacific.”
