Hella’s Karsten Eichhorn opened the IQPC’s IAL congress with a lecture presenting two new standard LED modules, EcoLED and VariLED.
The EcoLED is a bifunctional projector module using a fixed bi-shutter (movable actuator). The lighting performance is equivalent to halogen and the vehicle segment is focused to compact and middle class, trucks, and buses.
The module, which is physically comparable to existing standard 90mm modules, uses 3 Ostar 4 chip LEDs and a plastic cover lens with hardcoat finish. Control electronics are integrated in the module. Low beam flux is 635 lm, with a peak intensity of 27,500cd and 30w power consumption. On high beam, flux is 1050 lm with peak intensity of 52,500cd and 60w power.

Low beam flux is 1,100 lm, peak intensity is 50,000cd, and power is 42w.
High beam flux is 1,500 lm, peak intensity is 68,750cd, and power is 58w.
Eichhorn explained that LEDs, with new optical techniques, are increasingly able to support standard/eco and high functional light modules alike, with attendant challenges in system design.
