Renault have shown the final designs of their all-electric Fluence and Kangoo Express ZE models. The French automaker estimate electric vehicles will account for 10% of the world market by 2020, and the Renault-Nissan
alliance is investing €4bn in a zero- emissions programme while 2,000 staff are already working on EVs.
The C-segment Fluence ZE sedan is due to go on sale in Israel, Denmark and Europe from 2011. The Kangoo Express will have an operational range of 160 km, and Renault say the electric version is as practical as the engine-equipped models with the same carrying capacity, the same payload and the same comfort.
Renault will manufacture their first four EVs in four different factories, with production beginning in 2011. The Kangoo, derived from the Twizy ZE concept, will be produced at Valladolid in Spain and the electric Fluence will be built in Bursa, Turkey.
