Clepa have issued a new version of their position paper on warranties. One aim of the attachment is to explain technical characteristics and the special nature of bulbs especially related to lifetime aspects which require special focus related to warranty.
1) No special tools should be required to exchange bulbs to allow Do It Yourself (DIY) replacement.
(Reference European GTB Regulation ECE R48, paragraph 5.23 “Lamps shall be fitted in a vehicle in such a way that the light source can be correctly replaced according to the instructions of the vehicle manufacturer without the use of special tools, other than those provided with the vehicle by the manufacturer”).
2) There are safety benefits to allow easy DIY roadside replacements of bulbs.
3) Bulb spare kits should be part of the car toolkit allowing fast DIY roadside replacement in case of emergency e.g. bulb failure while driving at night. (Regulation already existing in certain member states, e.g. Hungarian Traffic Regulation No 5/1990 KHVM & No 6/1990 KOHEM, extract “…The obligatory accessories of the vehicle are: Set of bulbs (emergency box, warning triangle, Red Cross parcel …”).
