Koito have published their 2017 annual report. During fiscal 2017 (ended this past 31 March) the overall automotive production volume in Japan increased year on year due to the effect of introduction of new vehicles and increase in exports. In the current fiscal year, net sales are expected to increase year on year due to an increase in new orders and the worldwide shift to LED automobile lamps.
In the medium- to long-term perspective, the global automobile production volume tends to increase due to further demand in emerging markets such as China, Thailand, Indonesia, and India, and the growing prevalence of high-content lighting systems such as ADB.
Given predictable future changes in automotive industry such as autonomous driving, competition in the industry will likely heat up as companies established in other industries come to enter the automotive sector.
In this set of circumstances, Koito are developing their R&D network and aggressively developing ADAS, AV, and high-tech lighting technology.
