A few weeks ago we reported on the E-Class headlamp after a visit to Hella in Lippstadt and a night drive with a mock-up of the E-Class.
The main information was about the module with 84 LED chips in three rows to produce whatever beam is called for: low, high, high-resolution ADB. An optical system (base or prefield module) from two reflectors outside the 84-LED module creates a wide light spread with a flat cutoff for the low beam. Within this pattern, the lower row of 30 chips also contributes to the low beam. The middle row of 28 chips creates the high-intensity hot spot for both the low and high beams, depending on which chips are lit at what intensity level. Additionally the dynamic bending light is realised by sequential switching of LEDs. The upper row of 26 chips contributes to the high beam and ADB.
