The high number of attendees who joined the workshop demonstrates the great worldwide need, especially in the Chinese lighting community, to have ready access to information in a time when so much new technology arrives at such a rapid pace.
In China, traditionally a region with great interest in car styling and technologies, lighting has become a strong lever not only for styling differentiation but also for technology, and for energy savings.
250 attendees followed lectures and panel discussions.
The arrival of laser and OLED technologies, improved lighting performance, and the intelligent lighting achieved by cameras can bring greater safety to night driving. The possibilities of simulation tools give engineers new ways to develop more projects, helping to effectively manage the increasing engineering workload. All of these technologies have to be integrated in the regulations including European, US, Japanese, and Chinese.
All these points have been presented and discussed at the DVN Shanghai workshop under the rubric “Innovations for Better Light”.
What do we retain from this workshop one week later?
– The exceptional lectures of OEMs, with especial appreciation for the videos shown by Audi and Mercedes-Benz;
– The 4 lectures on light sources, halogen, HID, LED and OLED, giving fruitful information of the future of theses sources.
– Kamislav Fadel’s lecture presenting his vision on lighting, Rainer Neumann describing the lighting trends for the Chinese market, Olivier Barthomeuf focusing on the important item of thermal constraints in LED, and the very interesting lecture of Takashi Sato on a new optical concept and the hybrid LED-laser beam.
Dr Huhn started his presentation by reviewing the history of the modern automotive lighting.
Uwe Kostanzer presented last week a very interesting lecture at the DVN workshop. He explained the constant progress in increasing road safety with the introduction of
