Automotive Lighting have opened a plant in the southern Chinese city of Foshan to produce rear lights, headlamps and other lighting components.
This, together with AL’s factory in Wuhu and R&D centre in Shanghai, support the supplier’s aim to secure a 10% share of China’s lighting market in the midterm.
The new 18,000-m 2 plant, which opened last week, employs 300 workers.
Initially it will produce 2.4 million rear lamps annually, and later will start producing headlamps.
AL’s parent company, Magneti Marelli who also produces exhaust systems and engine components in China, generated sales in that market last year of €287m. Marelli hope to boost China sales to €1bn within five years.
