Some models of Toyota sold in Belgium will carry traffic information for their in-car systems using DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting). The systems will be powered by‘be-mobile’, which provides traffic and mobility content and services for the automotive industry, mobile, media and government road operators. The organization attempts to interconnect cars, the road network and public transportation by creating a single umbrella traffic ‘ecosystem’.
The system will use the RTBF (Radio Télévision Belge Francophone) DAB network in French-speaking Belgium and the Dutch-language VRT.
DAB represents a major industry advance for real-time traffic information, as larger volumes of traffic data can be processed, which in turn ensures more accurate, more detailed and more precise information. DAB also vastly increases the speed at which traffic information is updated. The main advantages to the end customer include:
– Real-time mobile radar and traffic alert warnings
– Parking advice giving location and availability
– Public transport timetables
– Weather updates.
