Gentex have been presented with a Volkswagen Group Award at a ceremony in Copenhagen, Denmark. Only 18 suppliers worldwide received the award, and Gentex are the only American company in the lot. VW say they give the award to their best suppliers for entrepreneurial performance. Criteria include innovative strength, product quality, development expertise, competent project management, initiatives to improve efficiency, and environmental compatibility.
Gentex CEO Fred Bauer attended the ceremony. “This is a very prestigious award in the automotive industry,” stated Bauer. “Gentex engineers, program managers, sales teams and production associates all share in this recognition. We were able to design and produce high-quality products that met the multiple needs of VW and I’m proud to share this award with all Gentex employees globally.”
Founded in 1974, Gentex also provide commercial smoke alarms and signalling devices to the North American fire protection market, as well as dimmable aircraft windows for the commercial, business and general aviation markets. Based in Zeeland, Michigan, the international company develops, manufactures and markets interior and exterior automatic-dimming automotive rearview mirrors that utilise proprietary electrochromic technology to dim in proportion to the amount of headlight glare from trailing vehicle headlamps. More than half of the company’s interior mirrors are sold with advanced electronic features, and more than 98% of the company’s net sales are derived from the sale of auto-dimming mirrors to every major carmaker in the world.
