The Mobileye C2-270 driver assistance system can be retrofitted to any vehicle by a qualified shop in about three hours. The heart of the system, a small camera, is internally attached to the windshield. It ensures that the driver maintains the correct distance to the preceding vehicle. The safety system provides warning up to 2.7 seconds before an impending collision and – unlike comparable systems – includes pedestrian crash protection. By night, automatic headlight beam selection avoids glaring preceding or oncoming traffic while providing the driver with maximum vision.
The demand for early-warning driver assistance systems is growing. Michael Pokrandt, head of sales for Mobileye in Germany, says previously most customers for retrofitment of Mobileye driver assistance systems were fleets, transport, and commercial vehicles. But now the company are seeing “growing interest from private drivers who want to protect themselves and other road users against inattention or falling asleep; with the help of car dealers, we want to build a nationwide sales and service network and move increasingly to private customers.” In the first phase of this move, the company are seeking around 150 partners throughout Germany.
Mobileye, based in the Netherlands, assert they are the technology leader in advanced imaging and image processing technology for automotive applications. They have research and development facilities in Israel and offices in Japan, the US, and Cyprus. The product portfolio includes the full range of vision applications for driver assistance systems.
