Toyota now expect to coöperate with their Chinese partners to develop new technology, Ya Kato, general manager of Toyota Motor China said in an interview with Beijing News Last week.
Toyota have since 2002 started auto production in China, with hopes to import as many as its global strategy models into China as soon as possible. However, the table has turned. Because automobile industry in China is advancing rapidly with special characteristics and particular needs, Toyota will discuss with their Chinese partners what technology Chinese buyers will like.
Additionally, reports late last year said Toyota were planning a $330m to $440m R&D facility in China. Up until recently, China’s media said Toyota’s R&D center is currently awaiting approval from the Chinese government and will likely be located on the outskirts of Shanghai. A Toyota executive has also confirmed the Japanese automaker will build their first wholly owned R&D center to bolster vehicle quality in China, according to People’s Daily
