Around 280 visitors to eSafety from FIA, the EU, governemental and consumer organisations, fleet owners and journalists had the opportunity to learn about advanced safety systems.
Adaptive headlighting is one such system. Especially when equipped with high-performing light sources, adaptive lights offer an optimised illumination of the roadway after dark.
The system continuously adjusts the beam pattern so the entire scene is lit according to the driving situation. Modes include town, motorway, adverse weather, and curve. Even up hills and around bends, the system maximises the driver’s visibility, enabling earlier obstacle detection and quicker reaction.
Lane Support Systems warn a driver unintentionally leaving the lane or changing lane without indication, and help to correct the vehicle’s course.
Sometimes a moment of inattention is enough to make a vehicle stray from its lane.
The systems monitor the position of the vehicle in the road lane. Lane Departure Warning warns if the car unintentionally wanders from the path, and Lane Keeping Support helps correct the course of the car.
Speed Alert system helps a driver keep the correct speed and avoid speeding tickets. It does this by keeping the driver informed about the speed limit and warning when s/he is close to exceeding it. Certain Middle Eastern countries have for many years required all cars to come with a buzzer, chime, or beeper that sounds continually if the vehicle exceeds 125 km/h, but the new systems coming online are much smarter; they keep track of the speed limit where and when the driver is actually travelling.
