DVN: You have on the BMW 7 Series a triple functionality LDW, High beam assist and Speed limit display from one camera. Who were your partners for developing this technology?
A.R.: The front camera system was developed in close cooperation with Continental as the system supplier and MobilEye as the second tier for all the image processing algorithms for the three customer functions.
DVN: These 3 functions started as standalones. Do you think it possible to integrate more functions with the one camera?
A.R.: In various places of research it has already been proven that one can add further customer functions like vehicle detection for forward collision warning and fusion with radar, pedestrian detection, detection of further traffic signs, et cetera, to a front camera system. When these further functions will make it into a series development and finally into a product available on the market is still to be seen.
DVN: Will you extend this technology to BMW’s lower range car?
A.R: There is a general trend in the industry that these types of applications also become available in smaller sized cars. BMW is currently evaluating the market demand.
