“Lamps are demanding: Packaging issues, pedestrian safety, crash behaviour, the law in ECE and SAE, vision, optics, heat and ventilation, tooling and costs”
Malte Mößner of the Volvo Car Corporation and Christophe Dubosc from Valeo are the main players of the headlamp of the Volvo S60.
Malte Mößner was educated at the Technical University of Stuttgart, Germany and the Royal College of Art, London, UK.
Creativity is his passion; he is a designer, not just a stylist.
After positions as senior designer and team leader at the Volkswagen Design Center Wolfsburg and Potsdam, he moved up north to set up Exterior Detailing, Light and Quality for Volvo.
Christophe Dubosc was educated at POLYTECH’ University at Montpellier, France. His ‘adventure’ towards design began with the first clear outer lenses. These new ‘windows’ suddenly opened unknown fields of creativity. Eventually they led to the creation of current Valeo Styling Network which contributes to a better understanding of customers’ needs and to their translation into the best balance between style, performance and cost. He shared the same passion for creativity as Mößner, but with the difference that he plays on constraints to translate the customers’ concepts into real parts.
The exterior illumination of the S60 Concept became a substantial project right after Mößner’s arrival in Sweden March 2008.
His personal aim was to embody Scandinavian culture and Volvo heritage down to light detailing right fromt he start. First impressions of Sweden – the coastline, rock formations and the sea – drove the brainstorming around the theme of Viking ships.
