International Symposium on Lighting (ISoL-2011) from Wilfried van Laarhoven, DEKRA Certification B.
On Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 October I joined the ISoL 2011 in Gurgaon, near New Delhi, organized by International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) in India. It is the ISAL symposium for India. The organizer is ICAT, one of the main testing institutes on vehicles and vehicle components in India. ICAT is located in Manasar, India also near New Delhi. It is a division of NATRIP, which is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Government of India.
The symposium was not only limited to automotive lighting, but also some specific LED technologies such as the application in street lighting. The major topics however dealt with headlamps, signalling lamps and their light sources, with some focus on the application of LEDs.
The audience, about 200 persons, came from all over India and represented the set makers (suppliers of automotive lighting), light source industries, motor cycle manufacturers, car makers and also testing institutes and government.
About twenty speakers presented their message taking about half an hour for each. Several presentations were about the latest technologies in head lighting, such as:
– Rainer Neuman, Visteon, LED in automotive lighting – technical solution for Emerging market vehicles
– David Tatschl, CTO of ZKW Neolite (a JV between the Austrian ZKW and the Indian Neolite).
– Karsten Dieckmann from Hella KgaA Hueck & Co., Germany, showed the market developments and interesting new technologies to save energy.
– Junichi Hasegawa from Stanley Electric from Japan showed there latest products.
Of course the light source manufacturers such as Philips showed their latest progress in the application of LEDs in automotive lighting. Several suppliers of measurement equipment showed there advancements, such as
– Tony Bergen from Photometric Solutions International Pty Ltd., Australia
– Joe Jablonski from Labsphere Inc. USA.
Balarman from Heroo Motocorp Ltd in India, a big motor cycle manufacturer presented the history of the Indian Regulations and the alignment with the ECE Regulations.
Binnani from Tata Motors and active in GRE showed the work within WP.29 and their working groups to the Indian audience.
My own presentation was about the changes to the ECE Regulations to make the application of LED for headlighting possible.
