Below the questions/answers concerning the 12 selected speakers:
| Neumann has made an interesting and pragmatic presentation showing that it will be possible in the future to have inexpensive LED headlamps as basic equipment with better performance than halogen. It was a very nice opening lecture which gave a positive ambience to ISAL. |
DVN: When do you think the OptiLED and LED Mini projector will start in production?
Rainer Neumann : OptiLED headlamps will start production first in 2014.
DVN : When do you think the LED headlamps will be less than twice the halogen cost, not considering styling differentiation?
Rainer Neumann : Our Concept with OptiLED will lead in the next 2-3 years (depending on the total volume) to this target. This will make it easier to replace existing standard halogen solutions with OptiLED headlamps Including an improvement in light performance!

Very interesting lecture which confirms the high future of laser technology in automotive lighting. Laser diodes and LEDs will play complementary roles in future. We also note the thermal ease, the colour rendering, and the small packaging. |
DVN : Congratulations on your interesting presentation. Do you think lamps like this will achieve lighting performance higher than HID including beam width?
C.Basu : Thank you. Yes, I strongly believe that HID lamps will be outperformed. It’s just a matter of time.
DVN : Is your university working with an OEM or with a lighting company?
C.Basu : We at Hannover Centre for Optical Technologies, Leibniz University Hannover, always welcome project proposals and consultancy requests from the industry and every proposal is treated under strict non-disclosure agreement (NDA). We are very keen on novel product development and applications.
