Europe’s carmakers can look forward to another year of sales growth.
Analysts expect this year’s rate of increase to be 3% compared with last year’s 5% rise.
U.S. sales finished 2014 on a strong note, albeit slightly below expectations, and the year ended with volume of 16.44 million units, 5.8% above year-ago’s 15.53 million and the highest since 16.50 million in 2006.
Porsche say they expect to increase sales to 200,000 cars or more this year, hitting a long-planned target three years early, after posting record deliveries in 2014.
Hyundai Group, including Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors, have set a global sales target of 8.2m vehicles for this year, after sales exceeded 8 million units for the first time last year.
One of the main challenges facing the automotive lighting industry is to foresee the potential of ADAS technologies and sensors and how they can benefit and bring new innovations to the lighting business.
There will be more opportunities than risks for the lighting industry in this roadmap to connected vehicles and autonomous driving, in particular when new needs will have to be answered for warning, signalling, interior lighting, and failure recovery. One of the most critical challenges is to understand the revolutions underway in system architecture, diversity of sensors, redundancy, and failure analysis.

In the latest edition of Vision Zero, Bosch CEO Dr. Volkmar Denner gave his vision on the future of the automotive industry: “The traffic of the future is electric, automated and connected. Automated driving can drastically reduce the number of accidents, and thus greatly increase road safety. The prospect of saving 1.2 million lives is a great source of motivation”. This was in reference to the estimated number of road traffic deaths around the world each year.
Comprehensive support in both critical and monotonous driving situations could greatly increase road safety. Adaptive cruise control, which automatically controls speed and distance from vehicles ahead, has been available for more than 10 years.

Volkswagen are recalling about 25,000 new 2015 Jetta sedans in the United States to fix a software misconfiguration affecting the headlamps. The software in the lighting control module turns off the low-beam headlamps when high beam is selected, causing the high beams to put out insufficient light.
