The Indian vehicle market, seventh-largest in the world, has been open to the world’s auto- and component-makers for only about two decades’ time. Prior to the early-mid 1990s, it was closed; local automakers bought components from local suppliers, and all parties to the closed market were essentially unknown outside of India.
Now, the situation has changed. The world’s major automakers have operations and/or joint ventures in India, as do many of the globally-known vehicle lighting suppliers.
Number of total car sales in India in 2014 was 3.07 million cars and estimated 2015 is 3.37 million (13% increse vs 2014).
