Waymo recently released a report showing its vehicles are five times safer than human drivers and twelve times safer with respect to pedestrians. Safety was the main topic at November’s SAE ATS Symposium, and we cover a summary of that topic in a special report in this month’s newsletter.
Robotaxi services are starting to turn a profit as they scale – Baidu’s Apollo Go was profitable in Wuhan in Q3. WeRide’s CEO expects to breakeven at 12 trips per day without a safety driver and aims to get to 25 trips per day which would make the service profitable. From all of the robotaxi news reports this year, we should expect to see 1000’s of robotaxis to be deployed globally in 2026 and more companies starting to report operating profits which is key to continued scaling.
DVN had a successful conference on Sensors and Applications in Wiesbaden, Nov 19/20 with close to 150 attendees and a number of exhibitors and demo cars. We will publish a separate report on this at the DVN website and there is a summary in this month’s sensor newsletter. If you are interested to present/exhibit at our next Detroit workshop in March 2026 on AEB and L2++ technologies, please contact me.
