The Q2 ’25 automotive market remained strong and average transaction prices have been increasing in key markets. OEMs reported reduced profits in North America as tariffs start to impact costs. Robotaxi players including Waymo, WeRide and Pony.ai continue to expand services and fleets of these vehicles should surpass 10,000 in 2026.
Some OEMs such as BMW and Stellantis have publicly scaled back on L3 development, citing costs and lack of end user demand. This contrasts to what other OEMs, including GM and Rivian are seeing.
End-end AI solutions for self-driving have improved capability but also increased performance requirements and development costs. Nvidia in particular, seems to be taking advantage of this by offering its OEM partners increasingly complete solutions, including the safety certification tools which we go into more detail on with a special report below. Both Nvidia and Horizon Robotics, a Chinese SoC competitor showed more than 60% y/y automotive growth in their most recent quarters.
