During October, most garages and car dealers in Germany offer free of charge light checks. Motorist may drop in and get the lighting system checked for function and performance.
All safety-relevant lights are part of this and, of course, the headlight aiming. Small and simple repairs as the change of a defective bulb are usually free, with the exception of the parts.
After the car has passed it will be marked by a sticker at the windscreen. When the German police roadside stops cars for lighting-checks during October and November, cars fitted with the sticker usually may proceed.
The “Licht Test” follows a long tradition as the first time it was offered was 52 years ago. Organized by
the German traffic safety council “Verkehrswacht” it is supported by the nationwide association of garages, other organizations and some companies as lamp-manufacturer Osram. The Ministery of Communications holds the patronage.
