Lighting system manufacturer Osram has signed a licensing agreement with Seoul Semiconductor.
The agreement allows Seoul Semiconductor to manufacture and sell white LEDs with conversion technology using patents owned by Osram subsidiary Osram Opto Semiconductors, while Osram will receive a licence to use Seoul Semiconductor’s housing patents.
Osram Opto Semiconductors’ conversion technology enables the production of white LEDs using blue emitting InGaN (Indium Gallium Nitride) based chips and suitable fluorescent converter. The technology can be used in white LEDs of all sizes, in all output categories and for all areas of application.

Seoul Semiconductor offers a full range of LED products for automotive lighting, general lighting, signage, back lighting for mobile phones, televisions, notebook computers, home appliances, signals and other applications. The company claims that it has 1,251 patents and 100 licences.
