Driving Vision News: Professor, what is your feedback a few minutes after ISAL 2009 has closed?
Prof.Khanh: The congress was successful with high content mainly on environmental aspects, not only LED. We proved at this congress that we can reduce energy consumption everywhere we look, and the last example is the Xenon 25W which divides by more than two the consumption versus halogen. I was also impressed by the possibilities of Matrix Beam and marking Light which opens a new way for the next innovations.
DVN: Are you satisfied by the attendance?
Prof.Khanh: The number of participants is lower than at the last ISAL and for the first time since the first congress, there is not an increase of the attendance. However, we had 441 participants. It is a very good participation considering the crisis. All the experts of lighting were present.
I am proud of the participation of some car makers like Volkswagen and also by the participation of 3 engineers from Africa.
I was also sad by the low attendance of PSA and Renault and the absence of Honda. These companies lost a great opportunity to meet other people of the lighting family and to learn on the trend in innovations; not only LED innovations but also on physiology, on driver assistance, on adaptive driving beam, on optics/thermics/measurements, and others.
DVN: What is your feedback on the ease to follow the lectures in two different places?
Prof.Khanh: We had not the choice because and thank to the high number of interesting lectures. ISAL steering committee selected the main lectures and it was impossible to have all of them in the same place. We will discuss this point at the next steering committee.
DVN: How do you see the future of lighting after this symposium?
